Since 1990 the Ecuadorian territorial waters have been declared a "Whale Natural Shelter". Each year from June to September, the species of whales known as the Humpback whales come to the warm waters off the coast of Ecuador from the cold Antarctic waters to mate.......
The Hotel Sumaq has begun operations this summer in Aguas Caliente near Machu Picchu in Peru. This new hotel will offer 60 rooms and will include wireless internet, cable TV and also heating. In addition the hotel will offer a business center and spa treatments. For the very busy Aguas Caliente ; Machu Picchu corridor, this hotel will be a welcome addition. The hotel is listed as five stars (in a five star rating system). Staff members from Stanford Travel Systems recently visited the Sumaq and report that this hotel is now one of the best hotels in the area. Gourmet chiefs and finely appointed rooms and private bathrooms. Be sure and request a room with a view of the river.
"Our trip was wonderful and far exceeded our expectations. All
transfers were smooth and accommodations were perfect. Our guide was extremely
knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. It was very hard to return home, but
our over 7000 photos (digital fortunately) will help keep the memories
fresh. I can't even pick a best thing because each day was filled with so many.
The only suggestion we have is that the Quito city and Equatorial Monument
tour might be better set up as a full day because there is so much to see.
